Hi!!! This week we will be taking our Unit 2 Test on Wednesday Oct. 31! We will be reviewing the study guide today and playing Grudgeball in class Tuesday! Parents - This week you child should be reviewing for their test. They should have their notebook, textbook, and/or study guide to review. All notes are posted to the files & document section and a Quizlet to review unit vocabulary is posted in useful links. So, there are a bunch of ways to review for this test.   Since there won't be time for retakes, this test grade will be the first grade for Quarter 2. Happy Studies!

Hey guys! This week was a super busy week. Students learned about the basic needs and life processes of organisms, we constructed models of the cell membrane, worked our way through a 2-day stations activity and wrapped up with a Friday quiz! It's been a whirlwind of a week... Some upcoming reminders... -Homeroom students - please turn in your tan Impact Aid forms on Monday 10/22. Remember, turn it in on time and get CANDY! -Wear RED on Tuesday 10/23 in support of substance abuse education and prevention.   - Unit 2 TEST is OCTOBER 31st! Next Week Preview... We have quite a few labs planned for next week, so come to class ready to see science in action! We are going to revisit our cell membrane diagrams to model osmosis and diffusion. Finally, we will begin our review for the unit 2 test. Sounds like another busy but exciting week in store. Have a great weekend everyone!

Hey students! It has been a busy week in the library working hard on research papers...and so far I am very impressed with what I'm seeing! Great job guys! In case you are still working on your research paper, here is a couple of reminders: -Your research paper AND works cited page is due Monday 10/22. ***Parents if this seems like a lot, please rest assure that we have spent everyday in the  library working on this and at this point the research and works cited should be nearly done. -Your notes should be completed and added to your notebook on Monday (10/22) as well. Completing your notes should take you no longer than 10-15 minutes  and all documents necessary can be found in the files and documents section. - Your homework "quiz" is due Tuesday 10/23. Use your notes to help you. You are always welcome to turn it in early on Monday. Parents - I know this sounds like quite a bit of work. However, most students at this point have submitted their research paper and works cited. About half of them were even able to complete all their notes today! These were some very hardworking kiddos and I'm looking forward to reading through the research papers soon. Please check in with your students to see where they are at in the process of their paper. The research paper can be a daunting task, especially since in 6th grade no research paper was required. Please email me if you have any questions or concerns. Have a wonderful weekend!

We have officially completed our first unit of the school year in life science! Students took their first test today and scores are looking pretty good! Students will find out their scores and if they need to retake any portions of the test by next week and a time will be scheduled for retakes (during homeroom, lunch, or after school). Parents, if your curious if your child needs a retake, check parent portal next week and look at the their 3 scores for the unit 1 assessment. If any scores are below an 80% or B, then your child will be asked to take a retake. Retakes are truly an awesome opportunity for the students to review material they struggled with and show mastery. Parents please be on the lookout for retake forms (they will require a parent signature). Additionally, we started our unit 2 today with a simple vocabulary activity. Students if you want to continue your vocab (or just really want to be ahead of the game for this unit) check out my Useful Links section for the link to the Quizlet you used today. You can use this link to review the vocab through flashcards, matching and playing review games. Have a wonderful LONG weekend! Enjoy your Monday off!!!

Hi! We will (have been) be preparing for our first unit test this Friday (10/5). All week long we will review the materials covered these past few weeks. The unit review has also been uploaded to the document section. Please review the following topics at home to be prepared for your test: -Cell Theory -Characteristics of Life -Prokaryotic vs Eukaryotic Cells -Plant & Animal Cells (structure & function) Today, cell projects were due! If you have NOT turned a project in -- PLEASE do so by FRIDAY (10/5)!!! Points are deducted for every day it's turned in late (refer to rubric posted in documents & files sections). This is a summative (BIG) grade that you do not want to forget to turn in and can significantly impact your overall grade. For example, if you currently have an A and you do not turn in your project or receive a F on your project it could drop your overall grade to a C. Keep in mind that your test on Friday is also a summative grade - poor performance on either or both of these assessments could result in a very low overall grade. Happy Studies!

Hi Everyone, This is just a reminder that your CELL PROJECT is due next week, TUESDAY OCTOBER 2ND! Also, our first TEST will be next week FRIDAY OCTOBER 5TH! Parents - Please be on the look out for cell projects. If you notice your child is not completing a cell project, please remind them to do so...before it's too late. The cell project is a SUMMATIVE assessment, meaning that it will greatly impact their grade if it is not completed. If your child says they have lost or misplaced their copy of the cell project handout - HAVE NO FEAR! - I have posted it in the document section. Also, they should be studying in preparation for their test. All notes have been posted to the documents & files section. A STUDY GUIDE will be given out on Friday Sept. 28th and will also be uploaded, so please be on the lookout for this as well.  Work hard + Study hard = SUCCESS!!!

I also wanted to say thank you to the parents who were able to come out to Back to School night! It's always great to meet the parents and share what we are doing in class. When parents and teachers are able to work together the output is a successful student! That's just plain science... Thank you for all that you do!
